There is no mention of what format is being used so going on "Look Inside" view you will be disappointed if you are expected algebraic version. As good players know, one of the primary aspects to study is the endgame, and you'll have to find another book if you want to learn to win when most of the material is gone. Because there are few books aimed at beginners, but which will still entertain you as you get stronger. One of the first books I owned, Chernev's THE FIRESIDE BOOK OF CHESS guided me through the many facets of chess during my formative years.

Defense + Relieving the pin (get between piece and king) preferable to simple defense (get ahead of the piece).Part one is mostly 1e4 openings with a kingside attack where white dominates after forcing black to move a kingside pawn. Queen’s Gambit C4 (offering to D5) can tempt lack of response at C5 (or acceptance of gambit), leaving C-file dominant and weakening black queenside - backing up c-pawn with pieces and building to the point it is captured. In that respect, again flaws and all, showing the moves and some of the simple ideas behind the moves, even the repetition of some bits of advice, was perfect for me.

A player with a high rating may criticize that the games are too simplistic and old fashioned, but to appreciate the modern theory and its subtleties I imagine you've got to know the classical play first. Alekhines subtle strategy involves maneuvers which encompass the entire chessboard as a battlefield.Chernev thoughtfully explains the decision-making process and contextual meaning behind each move as it’s made. fantastic scene of torch bearing sacrifice orc-pawn marching up the field as the heroes are lock-horned. F2/7 pawn particularly vulnerable because protected only by king, compare to d2/7 and e2/7 each defended by 3 pieces. Primarily because I have to play it out on an actual board (even though every couple of moves or so, Chernev includes a diagram), so there was decently high activation energy to read it.

and remember pay attention to every move you make [ attack and suffocate your opponent - but don't make them cry ] and whatever the book tells you follow that and i guaranty you'll see improvement fast.I knew this heuristic, but after seeing it in action several times I feel I understand a little better.
