After reading many books to help prepare for the birth of my baby, I really feel this one gave me many tools that me and my partner will be able to use. The author is the founder of The Positive Birth Company and in her book she first of all debunks common myths about hypnobirthing and the birth experience. Remember, the mechanics of how your baby enters the world matter little long-term in comparison to how you felt when your baby came into the world.

I especially love how the author constantly reminds us that what we see on TV or in movies doesn't represent a real birth experience—because that's what most of us imagine how it would be. We are experiencing delays with deliveries to many countries, but in most cases local services have now resumed.Just as I would telling them to speak to my other half and not talk to me, who would surely just pass on what they're asking or saying anyway? Breaking down in tears over a book because it made me feel like I was going to have the worst labour possible when it is meant to make your "birth better", shows a real lack of consideration for all types of labour and mothers-to-be. I think it is essential to understand how the system works because being frightened about the birthing process proves to be unhelpful.

It gives you techniques to implement hypnobirthing no matter what birth journey you have, things to consider to optimize your experience, and how your partner can support you! And like I said- even if you are planning an epidural or ceasarian or ANY type of birth, this book is just amazing and reminds us the power of our thoughts and that it should be YOUR decision. So I came across this book and it has really helped her, a great gift for your pregnant friend for sure. And finally, to have a birth plan - not something to which you need to stick slavishly, but some kind of framework that can guide the experience when it's underway. The author is so patronising and it’s very apparent what her view point is and what decisions she feels you should make.

I absolutely sped through the book and really found learning about the actual hormonal process of labour and birth and how I can affect that incredibly helpful. This book has given me the chance to understand the choices I have within the birth centre/hospital and I can't wait to use some of the techniques. Information like birth shouldn't be painful in the majority of cases, that Hollywood depictions are dramatic and wrong can be good for mindset but there are parts where, although she doesn't recommend anything outright, strongly suggesting not to induce because the risk of stillborn going for 4/10000 to 6/10000 is still as small risk and it doesn't matter "how a baby makes it into the world as much as how you feel about bringing the baby into the world" presupposes a successful outcome that would result in more dead babies if applied as a policy to everyone giving birth. Despite a 15 hour labour, I would describe my experience as positive thanks to my mindset throughout, which I definitely wouldn't have had without this book. I preferred the digital course as I find the book put a strong emphasis on the advantages of home birth, which I find awesome for some but you start feeling bad if it's just not for you.

Don't get fooled by the title of the book "hypnobirthing", it really doesn't have anything to do with hypnosis. I did find the more practical elements around breathing techniques and packing my hospital bag helpful, but it was not worth purchasing this book for as it's all information that can be easily sourced elsewhere. Essentially, it’s a form of antenatal education, an approach to birth that is both evidence-based and logical. In this book, Siobhan debunks common myths about hypnobirthing and explains why she believes it can make every type of birth a better experience – from a water birth at home to an unplanned caesarean in theatre. Hypnobirthing certainly doesn't involve being hypnotised; instead, it teaches you how your body works on a muscular and hormonal level when in labour and how you can use various relaxation techniques to ensure you are working with your body (rather than against it), making birth more efficient and comfortable.
