Description

As mentioned above, the fact of the murder victims lacking faces and fingertips might seem to make positive identification of the victims impossible. His father, a general in the Great Patriotic War, complains that his son only visits when he wants information.

This novel showed us deep corruption at all levels, like that of the eighties, and it told us: the Powers that Be would soon discretely fold it all up and put it out of harm’s way.You literally feel like putting it aside and not picking it up for a while, but still feel like turning page after page at the same time! Arkady Renko, a chief investigator for the Moscow militia, is a one man Don Quichote who wants justice for the three dead people in Gorky Park, an amusement park in Moscow. Arkady Renko, chief police inspector for the People's Militia, is brought in to investigate the deaths of three people found in the snow of Moscow's Gorky Park. The tail-end gets a bit droopy -- Renko loses his shit and goes into a pity spiral, and there's all this mirroring of the ways the U. The plot is pretty complicated, as you'd expect, but the trappings (you'll see what I did there in a second) are pretty fun.

In the present, corruption is rife, dissidents are persecuted and the Cold War may still be on, but greed makes surprising allies. The last few chapters were a rollercoaster as the action decamps to the USA and I think I held my breath for the entirety of the penultimate chapter.

the murders in the park were a good beginning to the book but it soon became so wrapped up in Russian politics, mixed with corrupt Americans and a slut that had the morality of an ally cat and the intelligence of a Barbie doll.
