I thought some of the book might have had an effect on him, but I did not expect such an immediate and magical change. Highly recommend this book to anyone who may be reaching the end of their breastfeeding journey, and feeling nervous like I was! I really like the idea of my toddler being the one to have a physical representation of letting go of milk but I cannot release a balloon.

It features a magical element that appeals to the child, so that they look forward to their weaning day and are more emotionally prepared to say goodbye to nursing. In the same way that the Tooth Fairy makes children happy about their teeth falling out, looking forward to seeing Booby Milk magic fly away to Booby Moon can give the same wondrous joy to a weaning toddler. As in Reid’s real life, the mum and toddler in the book mark the occasion, on the night of the toddler’s birthday, by having one last feed before releasing a glow-in-the-dark helium balloon, thanking the milk and waving goodbye as it floats away. Sure, they gave toddlers a heads-up that the milk would soon be gone, but they didn’t imbue the process with the joy, ritual or excitement that she wanted.

Thank you so much it was exactly what I was looking for and will be recommending it to all breastfeeding parents! The author includes very detailed information in the back of the book with suggestions on how to go about the process. We didn’t do the balloon ceremony thing, but I would remind her that mama’s booby milk went to the moon whenever she would ask to nurse. When I first read Booby Moon , I loved the tone and the idea but wondered if the mythological aspect would be right for me when it came time to wean my almost two-year-old.

Book also includes a gentle-parenting user guide that how to wean using Booby Moon, night weaning prior, breaking the fed-to-sleep habit and various options for a meaningful goodbye ritual. Suitable age 18months - 4 Book features an illustration of a mother cuddling her toddler to sleep instead of nursing them at night (bed-sharing). I nursed my daughter for over 2 years and to say that she was obsessed with the boob is an understatement.

While our feeds had dropped to one or two a day, refusing him was very difficult and dropping feeds was always a drawn out process. Group Leaders aren’t expected to spend any additional time in the community, and are not held to a set schedule. However, my son noticed the book on my desk and asked me to read it to him, and he’s since requested it many more times. The back section of Booby Moon contains kind, insightful guidance for using the book to facilitate weaning. I think this book could be really great for moms who want to end breastfeeding at a specific point in time.

This is a community to encourage, support, and educate parents nursing babies/children through their breastfeeding journey. It is beautifully written and illustrated and really touches on the intense bond that breastfeeding fosters and how hard that can be to give up, for both mum and child. He still asked for it occasionally but whenever he did we reminded him of how we had let it go and there were no complaints, no pleading, no tears. Even though we’re not officially weaning yet, he’s fascinated by the idea that the toddler in Booby Moon doesn’t need milk anymore, and I can see it’s a first step towards laying the foundations. Studies show the practice of ritual during times of loss alleviates grief, makes us feel closer to our families and helps us to say goodbye. In the same way that the Tooth Fairy makes children happy about their teeth falling out, looking forward to seeing Booby-milk-magic fly away to Booby Moon can give the same wondrous joy to a weaning toddler. I'll admit, while I was excited to give reading the book a go, I had a healthy amount of skepticism about how much it would help. I had to wean her so we can do another round of IVF, and I was dreading the process cuz my girl is a boob monster!
