Remember, in the sex-segregated religious schools, girls only have the option to be either madonna or whore and whore is acceptable only within marriage as “mother”. So why isn't she ready for Yuu's feelings now that she's sure Yuu really knows who she really is and loves her for real reasons?

Usually love triangles like this make me pretty frustrated, because I don't like to see girls suffering from rejection.I also love that Hakozaki's somewhat authoritarian personality was consistently portrayed in her younger days too.

I started reading this coz the anime left things at a very awkward stage and I'm so glad I did because the way the story progressed is better than what I expected. In the morning, when Hakozaki notices, Miyako says: "I didn't trust myself in the same bed with you. By the time my copy had arrived, I had rewatched the anime, but still felt I needed to reread volume 6. In my own life, I came out to my wife as transgender 2 and a half years ago and that's exactly what we are working through. I think that what made this volume for me was the fact that our characters have taken almost a break from one another. There’s also that creeptastic thing some men do where they infantilize women and insist on “purity” as a measure of sexual worth which is and, it also has a deeply pedophilic component to it.

He's drawing a firm line between his complete lack of ability to feel or want another person and Yuu's experience. Still, watching Sayaka tripping down the steps with joy after the scene in the viewing area made me very happy. This was a fucking emotional rollercoaster that was considerate enough to take breaks so I wouldn't die from the feels, but also punch me in the feels multiple times. To be honest, I was quite surprised by how much I liked this volume, and it totally held up on a second reading as well. We're finally reaching a point where Yuu and Touko are figuring out their feelings and what they want their relationship to look like, which is so nice after so many volumes.

If Bloom Into You were a movie, this would be the part of the movie where, instead of hastening towards the climax, as American movies do, the characters would spend the next half hour moping, then run halfway across town to finally see each other, but Bloom Into You isn’t a movie, so while Touko and Yuu do exactly as described above, there is a different person for us to follow while they mope. While this Nanami thinks about how she has changed and how the people around her is changing, growing and evolving. There’s a bit about the relationship between the teacher and the bar owner and how their relationship started.

However, I do think it has more of an impact when not only do the characters have to work for it, but if they step away from each other to think about if this is what they actually want. LGBTQ+ representation (0-5): 2 - I'm going to give this some extra loving because of the flashback with Hakozaki-sensei and Miyako that really feels like adult lesbians that exist in the real world and not just fantasy yuri decontextualized from society.
